Who we are

At Salt Yard Group, we are continuously striving to operate four of the best restaurants in the heart of London. Restaurants thrive on word of mouth, and we want to be known for the quality of our food and the hospitality experience we provide – not for unwanted emails or marketing.

Individuals are legally required to be informed about the collection and use of their personal data and that’s what this Privacy Notice sets out to do. We want you to be in control of all your data, and we never sell your data to other companies or businesses. We also promise to not overload you with information, to be fully transparent about how we use your data, and to let you opt out at any time.

We host a regular programme of events, so we encourage our customers to sign up to our mailing list so that we can stay in touch about what’s happening at the different sites.  When you sign up to our emails, we may collect personal information to keep our mailings relevant to you. Examples of such information include your birthday or address.

This Privacy Notice is a detailed document about the different ways in which we might use your information. If you ever have any questions, or don’t understand something, you can get in touch with us directly at marketing@saltyard.co.uk and our data protection officer will respond to you in a reasonable timeframe.

Types of data we collect and how it is shared

Website cookies

Cookies are small data files that store information on your devices as you browse the web. Most modern-day websites need them to run smoothly and ours is no different. We may use cookies to monitor general user behaviour on our websites as well as the success of some campaigns, including Facebook marketing and Google Ads. You are not required to allow the use of cookies – to prevent them being used, you should disable their use following in the security settings provided by your preferred web browser.

Google Analytics

We’re a relatively small team, so we use a digital agency called Propeller for some marketing activity. Propeller manages a Google Analytics account on our behalf. Google Analytics is a third-party service that collects standard internet log information about our website visitors. This includes number of visitors to a specific page, whether they are accessing the page via laptop or mobile, and general demographic data. Google Analytics paints a useful picture of who visits our website and how people find out about us online. We do not use Google Analytics to identify anyone.

Wireless internet

We offer free wi-fi to our guests across all our sites. We do not collect any data from you when you sign into our wi-fi networks and don’t use this amenity for marketing purposes.

Over the phone

If you give us your name and contact details for the purposes of booking a table, we won’t store this information for marketing purposes.

Mailing lists

Our digital agency, Propeller, manages the system that stores and delivers our newsletters, and they maintain the customer mailing list database. Their system gathers statistics about the number of people who open, click into, and unsubscribe from our newsletter, as this helps us improve our marketing. We may occasionally use our database information to deliver our marketing campaigns on 3rd party sites such as Facebook, but we won’t sell your data to any other businesses.

You can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email, or by contacting us at marketing@saltyard.co.uk.

Propeller wants us to let you know a few technical things about how your data is stored.

  • The data is MySQL database stored.
  • There is restricted IP Access to the data.
  • It’s held in the Republic of Ireland (Not UK)
  • Backups are held in Republic of Ireland (Not UK)
  • It’s kept indefinitely.

For any more information about Propeller’s systems, please contact their data protection officer at info@propeller.co.uk

Ticketing data

We may use industry-standard ticketing agencies such as Ticket Tailor or Eventbrite to promote ticketed events at our restaurants. You may want to review their respective privacy policies here and here. We may use your ticket registration details for our own mailing list, but we won’t do so without your consent, and we won’t ever sell on that information.

Third parties e.g. online reservation services

As a restaurant group we work with a lot of third party sites. For example, all our online reservations are done through a table booking system called Bookatable. Their privacy policy is available here. We also let customers find us through lifestyle publications such as Time Out, Zomato and others, who may track the number of visits we receive on their site. In these cases, you should refer to their privacy policies to understand how they store and use data as they operate independently from us.

Social media data

We have official profiles on social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We encourage our customers to like and follow these profiles. Please be sure to check you are following our official profiles as we can’t be responsible for accounts that look like ours but are not maintained by us. We will never ask you for personal details like your password online. Our emails may contain clickable links or buttons that allow you to share content on social media and may track your activity. When you click on a social media button to share content related to our restaurant, your information may be stored.

Service providers and suppliers not mentioned above

We may use several other providers to help us run our business: examples include Internet Service Providers and IT or accountancy support. These companies may have access to some of our stored data but will not be able to use it for any purposes outside of providing us with operational support.

Access to your personal information

We may have mentioned it a few times in this privacy policy already: we’re really keen to ensure you are confident that we are handling your data in a responsible way. You can request access to all of the information on you that we hold at any time. Just email us at marketing@saltyardgroup.co.uk and our designated data protection officer will be in touch.

Changes to this Privacy Notice

This policy was drafted in April 2018 to be in line with the changes in legislation coming into effect in May 2018. We want to ensure we’re compliant with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), the DPA (Data Protection Act) [pre GDPR enforcement] and the PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations). We will review this policy when any changes are made to how we process and store data, or when the UK leaves the EU, whichever occurs first.
