You’ve been with us throughout this year’s Croqueta Challenge, and what a journey it’s been. Over two intense heats, the contenders were whittled down to seven finalists, and on Monday 2 September, we crowned the champion. It is our great pleasure to announce Rambla as this year’s winner.
After a gruelling showdown with the other finalists; Bar Douro, Aqua Nueva, Farang, Claw, Tredwells and Salt Yard, Rambla’s croquetas wowed our judging panel of Code’s Editor Lisa Markwell, Hot Dinners’ Founder Catherine Hanley and Salt Yard Group’s MD Georgina Laing, as well as the 4th judge, our fabulous croqueta-revelling audience. Gin Mare was flowing, the kitchen was pumping, and the audience was buzzing – all in all, spirits were flying high.
Their winning croqueta was caramelised apple-pie with cinnamon sugar and tonka bean ice cream, and we are pleased to confirm this will be available on Ember Yard Restaurant’s menu until Wednesday 19 September.
Salt Yard scooped 2nd place with a punchy slow-braised oxtail croqueta served with mojo picon sauce, pimento emulsion and lemon cream. Just behind them in third, we had Aqua Nueva with a decadent Galician lobster creation.
